The Intelligence Department Studios, built in 1985 and located within the former Operative Technical Sector building in the restricted area of the Berlin-Alt-Hohenschönhausen, was originally operated by the Ministry of State Security. At one point responsible for the development, production and maintenance of all espionage equipment, including wiretapping devices, cameras, camouflage and monitoring instruments, the building is now offering studio spaces for artists, ranging from 18 to 150 square meters. The studios have 3.84 meter high ceilings, large, wide windows, and are equipped with a sink and central heating. High power voltage and internet connection are available upon request. The building is also equipped with a large-scale freight elevator, parking spaces, showers and separate storage units that can also be rented. It is easily accessible, 24 hours a day, by trams M5 (Freienwalderstrasse) and M6 (Genslerstrasse), both only 20 minutes from Alexanderplatz.
